The Town of Bassendean extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. John Todd, who passed away on the 4 June 2024.

John Todd was a remarkable athlete and coach, winning the Sandover Medal at just 17 years old during his debut season. Despite a knee injury in his second season, Todd's passion for the game led him to a coaching career spanning over four decades. He guided three WAFL clubs to six premiership victories, with a significant impact on the Town of Bassendean through his leadership of the Swan Districts Football Club, securing four premiership wins over 19 seasons. His contributions to the sport have been recognised with inductions into the Australian Football Hall of Fame, the West Australian Football Hall of Fame, and the South Fremantle and Swan Districts Football Hall of Fame.

The upcoming Swan Districts Football Club game on Saturday 15 June against South Fremantle, playing for what will now be known as the John Todd Memorial Cup, will hold additional significance as the Club honours John Todd’s extraordinary contributions to football.

Residents may be impacted by the influx of visitors attending the game. Due to train service disruptions, parking in the area may be limited. To accommodate the anticipated large crowd, overflow parking will be available behind Cyril Jackson Senior Campus, with shuttle buses running to and from Steel Blue Oval commencing from 11:30 am and returning from 5 pm to 6 pm. The shuttle buses will depart from a temporary stop on Reid Street before Kathleen Street (adjacent to Cyril Jackson Senior Campus) and travel via Reid Street, West Road, Watson Street, Hamilton Street, Palmerston Street, West Road, and Old Perth Road to Stop 15547 (Old Perth Road after West Road).

Tickets for the game and the pre-game Legends Luncheon are available on the Swan Districts Football Club's website. The Town of Bassendean proudly supports this important event for our community.
