Have Your Say: Bassendean Precinct Structure Plan

The Bassendean Town Centre is a vibrant hub that plays a critical role in the community, fostering a strong sense of place and contributing to the Town’s overall prosperity. The Town is committed to creating a safe, healthy, and inclusive community with a thriving Town Centre.

The Town’s Local Planning Strategy (2021) provides a roadmap for future land use and development. The Strategy recognises the potential for the Bassendean Precinct to evolve into a vibrant hub with a mix of medium to high-density housing, employment opportunities, and activity spaces.

To guide Bassendean’s evolution, the Town is preparing a Precinct Structure Plan (PSP). This comprehensive plan will consider the Town Centre’s physical environment, governance framework, and the unique needs of the community.

To learn more about the purpose of Precinct Structure Plan, why the Town is preparing one, and how it interacts with the Bassendean Oval Concept Plan, please read the Context and Issues Summary and Frequently Asked Questions.

What has been done and what comes next?

Over the past few years, the Town has worked closely with the community to shape the strategic direction for land use and development in the Bassendean Precinct.

Key outcomes and principles have been established through initiatives such as BassenDream Our Future, and the Town Centre Master Plan processes.

The next step is the preparation of the Precinct Structure Plan, which will involve engagement with stakeholders and detailed technical analysis. This process will culminate in the finalisation of a comprehensive land use and development plan for the Bassendean Precinct.

How can I be involved?

Citizen Panel:

To support the PSP’s development, the Town and GHD are establishing a Citizen Panel of 10–15 community members to ensure community perspectives inform the strategic and technical outcomes of the PSP. The Citizen Panel will provide residents with a platform to influence the planning process.

Who can join?

Everyone is welcome to apply! Whether you are a resident, business owner, or simply passionate about our community, we need your input.

While any community member can apply, a maximum of 15 participants will be selected by GHD. Selection will consider applicants’ skills, interest in the PSP, connection to the Town and Town Centre, and the need for diversity.

What are the benefits of joining?

Joining the Citizen Panel offers a variety of valuable benefits, including the opportunity to:

  • Have your say: Understand and influence the planning and decision-making process.
  • Collaborate: Work with fellow community members and local leaders.
  • Make an impact: Influence the strategic and technical outcomes of the PSP and help shape the future of the Bassendean Town Centre.

What level of commitment is needed?

The total time commitment is estimated to be 12 hours, with three workshops held on:

  • Workshop 1: 28 February 2025
  • Workshop 2: 7 April 2025
  • Workshop 3: 29 April 2025

We expect each workshop to run for 2 hours, with the workshops to be scheduled during business hours.
