To enhance affordable housing options for vulnerable seniors, the Town of Bassendean is pleased to announce a long-term partnership with Connect Victoria Park Inc. to manage tenancies of vacant units at Hyde Retirement Village. This new management agreement will extend until at least August 2029, ensuring ongoing support for older residents on low to moderate incomes.

The Town of Bassendean is committed to making our community more accessible and inclusive for everyone, including people with disabilities. To continue improving, we’ve developed a new draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) for 2024-2028, which builds on the progress we’ve made over the last five years.

As of 6 September, the Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development has extended the PSHB quarantine to the entire Perth Metropolitan area. Zone A is a high infestation area with strict controls, including restrictions on moving untreated wood and plant materials. The Town of Bassendean is in Zone A.

Later this year, the Morley to Ellenbrook Line will open, delivering new train stations at Morley, Noranda, Ballajura, Whiteman Park and Ellenbrook. In addition to the train line, a supporting bus network will also be introduced. The bus network will feature new routes as well as significant changes to existing routes. The Town of Bassendean has secured $3,350 through the Urban Greening Grant Program to enhance the urban forest at Hamilton Street Reserve. This funding will support the planting of 26 semi-mature native trees in winter 2025, as part of the Ashfield Flats Master Plan.

The Town of Bassendean is delighted to announce that former Elected Member Renée McLennan has won the Eminent Service Award at WALGA’s 2024 Local Government Awards. Renée served as an Elected Member for the Town of Bassendean from 2015 to 2023. During that time, she held the position of Mayor from 2017 to 2021 and served as Deputy Mayor from 2021 to 2023.

The Town of Bassendean is pleased to announce changes to the distribution of tip vouchers and compostable kitchen caddy liner rolls for the 2024/25 financial year, aimed at improving convenience and ensuring equitable distribution for all residents.

This year, the Town of Bassendean partnered with City of Bayswater to trial a collaborative approach to the delivery of Ranger Services outside of standard business hours and during busy periods. The trial initially ran between April and July 2024, but due to its success, it has been extended to 14 October 2024.

The Town of Bassendean has issued incorrect email rates notices to a small number of property owners. This arose due to a database glitch, meaning incorrect notices were issued to 30 properties, which represents approximately 3 percent of the properties registered for eRates. The Town has written to all impacted property owners and promptly issued the correct notices.

The Town of Bassendean remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguard its urban forest, taking proactive steps to enforce tree protection through an amended draft Local Planning Policy (LPP 13).

Since adopting the Bassendean Town Centre Masterplan in November 2021, the Town of Bassendean has been actively working to increase the supply of housing stock in collaboration with the state government. In September 2022, the Town transferred the management of Crown Reserve (3353 m²) at 1 Park Lane, currently the Wilson Street Car Park, to the state government for redevelopment into high-density housing.
