In a significant move to enhance accommodation options for vulnerable seniors, the Town of Bassendean Council at its November Ordinary Council Meeting approved a new agreement with Connect Community Housing for tenancy management of vacant units at Hyde Retirement Village.

Following a successful pilot project that ran from mid 2022 to mid 2024, where Connect Community Housing (operated by Connect Victoria Park Inc.) managed the tenancies of vacant units at Hyde Retirement Village, the Town of Bassendean has now committed to formalising a longer term partnership. An assessment of the pilot project highlighted very successful outcomes where 11 of the Village's 31 units were leased to individuals over the age of 60 with low to moderate incomes. This strategic partnership underscores the aspirations of Council to ensure, during a high rental market, that affordable accommodation is made available to vulnerable seniors, particularly older women.

Under the new agreement, the Town will collaborate with Connect Victoria Park for a minimum further five years, effective from 28 July 2024.  The unanimous support from the council reflects the positive impact of the pilot project and the shared commitment to fostering a supportive environment for older residents in our community.
