A Major Step Forward for Bassendean Oval Redevelopment Planning

The Town of Bassendean is pleased to announce a $500,000 funding commitment from the Cook Labor Government to support the next planning phase of the Bassendean Oval redevelopment. This significant investment will lay the groundwork for modern, inclusive facilities that benefit the entire community while honouring the Town’s heritage assets.

This funding builds on the progress made with the Council’s endorsement of the Bassendean Oval Redevelopment Draft Concept Masterplan in December 2024. The Masterplan, shaped by extensive public consultation involving over 1,100 survey responses, community workshops, and written submissions, reflects the community’s aspirations for this iconic precinct.

The funding will allow the project to proceed to the schematic design phase and include traffic modelling, parking solutions, in ground investigations including geotech and drainage modelling, followed by development of a detailed business case with projected capital and operational costings. This will then inform a further round of community consultation before seeking funding partners for the project.

The Town is actively seeking a $500,000 matching commitment from the Federal Government to finalise the precinct planning.

Mayor Kath Hamilton expressed her appreciation for the funding, stating, “We are grateful for the political will of government to progress this project as demonstrated in the provision of funding that will enable us to undertake detailed planning and design work. This is a crucial step in advancing our vision for Bassendean Oval. We’re excited to continue working with the community and stakeholders to bring this project to life.”

The Town of Bassendean looks forward to keeping the community informed and engaged as the project progresses. To learn more about the redevelopment, visit Advocacy » Town of Bassendean.
